Following a welcome by the 50th anniversary’s project lead, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dany Nobus, Professor Julia Buckingham and representatives from the winning team officially unveiled ‘Connect’ the new permanent installation on campus that will become a permanent reminder of our 50th anniversary.
The Vice-Chancellor welcome more than 120 guests to the event and paid tribute to the students from both final teams, the anniversary team and special guests Constellium, who kindly donated the materials used for the sculpture. After the winning vote was announced earlier this year, specialist effects and models company Artem was selected by the Estates department to turn the concept into a reality.
Representatives from both the winning team and the runners up attended and were awarded gifts and certificates.
Consisting of five figures, cast in striking aluminium, the sculpture forms an open circle allowing visitors to interact with it by joining hands with the statues to complete the circle. As each of the figures represents one of Brunel’s five decades, students and staff can represent the future as we enter our sixth decade.
Make sure to stop by the Arts Centre green and see Connect for yourself.
