Discovery Trail 14 (Eastern Gateway Building Display Cabinets, University Archives)
Ever since the ‘early days’ of Brunel College, music and arts have been an important part of University life.
A special concert Music from Brunel was staged on Friday 21 January 2005. The concert, at Wigmore Hall in Central London, was hosted by actress and Brunel alumni and honorary graduate Patricia Hodge and included outstanding musicians with close links to the University.
The concert opened with the Grammy nominated Maggini Quartet, Brunel Artists in Association, performing Haydn’s String Quartet in G, Op76 no1. The Maggini Quartet also closed the event by performing Schumann’s Piano Quintet with Bernard Roberts. Roberts was awarded an Honorary Degree by Brunel in 1989 in recognition of his services to the musical life of the University, where he has performed many times.
